Winnie the Pooh: A Valentine for You

Like my activity during a typical wacky weather week in Missouri, I went from cleaning my garage on a near 70 degree day on Monday to a 60 degree drop in wind chill during the last 24 hours. Change. Aren’t we used to it?

Change is necessary; but not always easy. This morning as I walked on my treadmill (attempting to prevent further pain with the drastic temperature drop!) I watched the classic Winnie the Pooh: A Valentine for You. It took me back to my own childhood, my time as a Mom and teacher, and especially warm thoughts of my precious grandchildren. Don’t you love watching and doing things you did when you were younger? You’re still that dreamer if you wish :-). That’s what I love about Winnie the Pooh. In this episode he was worried Christopher Robin no longer loved him. Tigger shared that Christopher had been “bitten by a smitten” (the “love bug”)! It was time to snare another smitten to “unsmite” Christopher Robin! Low and behold, a tiny light appears on Pooh’s honey jar! It must be a smitten!

The whole gang (how do you choose a favorite?) set off on a journey that took them deep into the heart of the 100 acre wood to snare the smitten. “Which way is this way,?” asked Piglet. Beaver points and says, “That way is this way!” Eeyore pipes in, “All we know is nobody knows!” (I hear ya, Eeyore) If only Christopher Robin was there to help them find their way! The group felt alone and afraid. BUT for the smitten! It flitted while lit and tickled Pooh enough to make him follow! The cute crew, lost while searching, all saw the light and gathered around it’s “winking and a blinking”! “Whatever it is it brought us out of the dark and back together!,” exclaimed Rabbit. “He’s shining his light on all of us!”

Christopher found them. Pooh begins to release the smitten until Christopher shows a Valentine he made for a new friend. Pooh hangs his head as the others try to get him to unsmite Christopher. The smitten was released and freed. Pooh shared, “Christopher is happy and I shouldn’t want it any other way. This is the saddest Happy Valentine’s I can ever recall.”

Pooh really thought Christopher had found a new friend and didn’t need his old friends. BUT…Winnie and all his friends found valentine cards at their homes. Of course Christopher had made and delivered them!

Winnie the Pooh-A Valentine for YOU

Today is “Random Acts of Kindness” Day. Although the weather is keeping me in, kindness has still been my focus. Yes, it’s easy to be like the weather-a roller coaster of drastic shifts. But when you become smitten by the light, with friends, new and old, on your side,…well, love wins. 🤍

Speaking of kindness…

This morning my Mom texted and said, “I want to send you a picture and then I’ll call.” She was having her morning quiet time and coffee, reading the Missouri Life magazine-she was on page 26, under a section, “More Good Reads” and there, in print, was my little book. My little book!💛🙏 We were both shocked to say the least. I couldn’t believe it! I can’t say THANK YOU ENOUGH to Missouri Life Magazine https://missourilife.com/for the review and nod. It means so much to me! Yesterday, Gage and I met to begin our next collaboration in the series. Meanwhile, I’m still marketing this one in my home state. Because of family and friends, old and new, I feel smitten- totally and completely smitten. Your support means the world to me. 🤍

  4. That was a cute cartoon. My daughter and I have been home fighting this nasty virus, so we watched that the other day. We both really liked that one. Always fun watching Winnie the Pooh movies. Congratulations on your book getting recognized! That’s cool! Blessings!

    1. Thank you, Ryan! I’m sorry to hear you two were fighting the virus. My twin fought it for 12 days; and thank God, my uncle came home from the hospital. It’s tough stuff! I love Winnie the Pooh and the gang! Yes, the recognition for the book was so sweet! I sent it right to my illustrator as without him, it wouldn’t be a book! Blessings to you and yours. Take care! I’m sure the virus messes with your underlying challenges. 🤍🙏🙏 Prayers!!!

      1. Thanks, Karla! We appreciate the prayers. Glad your twin and uncle are okay. Thankfully, we tested negative for Covid. Our daughter’s doctor said it’s some other viral bug going around. Our daughter has been sick since last Tuesday. I’ve been sick since Saturday. The coughing is awful. I talked with my doctor today, and he prescribed an antibiotic for me. Taking our daughter back to the doctor to try and get an antibiotic for her tomorrow. Hopefully this cures it. And yes, it’s always harder on my other issues when I get sick. Thanks again for praying! Blessings!

    1. Thank you so much, Russell! I’m so glad you have broken the walls of the WP minions! Your kind words and support always make me smile! Our next book is going to be a bit “bigger” in regards to how far Finn and I travel. I can’t wait to finish the synopsis and share with everyone. I hope you and Joan are doing well.       1. Thank you for your lovely words too Karla. I in fact am just passing on what was given to me by God…unconditionally. I cannot but do the same, His love is…well…everything…even the good and the bad because it is guiding us to that love in each step we take, regardless of where it begins or ends. To be given such a gift to see behind it all, and realize it is such a profound thing we all do, I can only guide as I was. Mind you, I do not have the wisdom that HE does so occasionally Spirit will block me as I may interfere with someone’s journey. I would love to give everyone the meaning of life…but it would not allow everyone to experience, and in doing so, understand those very experiences and slowly understand exactly what that self love is, see that we do with great purpose bind ourselves in a conditional love so that in experiencing it we can then understand what unconditional love is. When we finally see it all, it is so profound, even those things that seemingly do little have great impact…just as a smile does, it can spread with love for miles very quickly. So in that case, I give you a smile and a hug, God wants your heart to open just a little and smile too so that this world can be a better place in all you meet, just as your books do 😀 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋

  11. Karla, I am so happy for you and a great surprise delivered by your mom. Congratulations 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

    When our son was little we watched so much Winnie the Pooh that I could literally quote each story. My two granddaughters now love Pooh and all his friends. I get to relive it all again. Sometimes it makes me misty-eyed.

    I can’t wait to see where the next book will take you.

    1. Pam, thank you! My Mom was/is so cute! We were both giggly and happy. I love your memories with Winnie and now with the granddaughters. I love watching these shows. I embrace my misty eyes now! And still find joy in keeping my soul young. Why let go of such joys? Thank you for your support and encouragement. Finn and I are headed West in the next book and East after…you’ll love it! 💛💛🥰🙏🏻
