President’s Day

No matter where you place the apostrophe, a day is being celebrated. For some, it’s Presidents’ Day. Others, President’s Day. Perhaps Washington’s Birthday? In other places like Missouri, we celebrate Washington’s birthday and Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.

Travels to Lincoln’s hometown, Mt. Rushmore, and our nation’s capital flooded my memories as I “dusted” off these word cinquains. History, even shared events, shapes us all differently. My livelihood might be impacted by leadership. My wellbeing, peace, and future is not.

Keep the faith.💚

I must have slept through my favorite English teacher, Miss Goff, on cinquains. But I really like the format as it is short and sweet. Miss Goff lived to be 106 after teaching honors English at Normandy H.S. in St. Louis. She marked all over my work, but it helped me attack English and Philosophy at Kansas University. I pray for your health every day and wish you well at NIH. You are loved Karla, Captain Miles . I vividly remember our acquaintance on the Fifi that changed my life. I love your work.

      1. Captain Miles, it’s so good to see you, dear friend. I only knew cinquains in “syllable” form. I found this form a few years ago–so easy for my simple mind.
Miss Goff –wow! What a legacy. She was an inspiration who sparked inspiration in you. Look at what you’ve done in life!
I’ll not forget our day at the Fifi! You affirmed who I am to my core, dear friend.
It makes my heart happy you love my work!
I appreciate you so much, dear friend.

  1. Great post. The power within us, that lives on, is more powerful than any human system.

And….it is time for a timeline of Oneness, Abundance, and Greater Good. It is is time to live our Divine Design.

    1. That’s beautiful, Katelon. Thank you!
History has challenged, catastrophes, disasters,…all because humanity is, well, human! ♥️ it’s much greater than us. There’s much beauty and abundance despite us! Many blessings ❤️

  2. Very creative post! Visually and verbally, it captures the eye. Good work, as usual.

There is a lot going on around us these days. Yet, as you well know, it is what is going on within us by the Indwelling One that is the big news.

Where would we all be if there was not an Indwelling Christ to level-set our expectations, lead us in righteousness and joy, and live His life in us in place of our own lives? We would be stuck in our moment, hopeless and helpless, arguing about the past and wondering about the future. Not much life there.

How great it is to be made alive by the source of all life, to be enlivened not by our own lives but by life eternal, life without limits in every sense and realm of life.

Jesus does not give life to us. He is life in us.

Again, a great post. Thank you!

    Tim and that Rascal.

    1. Thank you, dear friend!

I appreciate your positive feedback and support-always!
Tim, you’re a well of wisdom, my friend. “…indwelling Christ to level-set our expectations, lead us in righteousness and joy, and live HIS life in us in place of our own lives…”

“We would be stuck in our moment, hopeless and helpless, arguing about the past and wondering about the future. No much life there.” AMEN, Tim!

We are made alive through HIM alone. “He is life in US.” Often I wonder, even for those who believe—“Do you truly FEEL the complete INDWELLING?” The surrender of one’s self–complete surrender.

I feel it all, Tim. I had my days of depression, doubt (and my doubt led to a greater faith!!), and opinions. Ah, to say there is nothing literally left of my life before HIM.

It’s always so good to connect here, my friend. Here’s to our future Christ-centered endeavors! Stay warm and we’ll talk soon, Tim (and Rascal!). God bless you both!

  3. Again, commenting outside the WP mechanism…

As you might guess, I am going with the plural possessive form of Presidents’, for reasons we have discussed here previously. I always liked splitting this holiday between Washington and Lincoln personally. And YES… HALLELUJAH… and AMEN for the reminder that it is in Christ alone where we find our meaning and security.

    1. Hi, my friend! You’re here! THANK YOU! WP didn’t stop you–YAY!
I need to change my title, Russ. I celebrate many greats! I enjoy that it comes between the birthdays of Washington and Lincoln.

I can’t help but “cringe” at all the furniture sales that go on and those in commercials with the Abe beards and top hats. I giggle. I don’t celebrate today for the good sales. I’m glad their there–but golly, we really monetize and market everything!

A HUGE HALLELUJAH to Christ for our security! Well-shared, Russell! God bless you both! Take care!

  4. Ah, perspective! As a survivor, who also happens to be born again, you are uniquely qualified to speak about this, Karla. 🤗 The world only offers two options: sink or swim. But those who know Jesus sometimes get to walk on the top with Him!

    1. David, thank you, dear friend. Sink or swim. Yes! “But those who know Jesus sometimes get to walk on the top with Him”
      I have tears!!!!
God bless you, dear friend! 🤗🙏🏼😪

  5. We don’t have any celebrations like that over here Karla. For some strange reason our ‘leaders’ are only remembered for how bad the last one was 🤗

But, it would be great to look up to and celebrate ‘someone’ who really ran the country for the people 😀

Anyway kind lady, I do hope you (and family, and Finn 🤗), are well. And that your recent medical ‘bits’ have gone ok. I believe your heart will be surprising doctors everywhere with that loving healing you have.

Oh, and of course there was a ‘move’ too. I hope that has gone/going well. It is one of the biggest events in our lives, especially finding those things that got lost. The last time I moved I think I found me 🤣

Enjoy the celebrations Karla, especially the hope, faith and beauty your heart finds. Even in those dusty corners there are things that let themselves be known so we can remember 🥰

Big hugs and much love from ‘over here’ for all you discover Karla. Have a great day 🤗🥰🤣🐾🦓🎶🕊️❤️🙏

    1. Hello, Mark! Do you see Finn and I waving? I’ll admit it might be hard~ my arm is too tired to wave too much or high lol. 😂

I love learning about your country. And the world here in WP! So interesting!

My celebration has been a good one. And as far as my heart~ I think it’s the best organ I’ve got right now, dear friend. It’s pumping well and I pray the lymph nodes around it are behaving! My heart feels so much. And I’m remembering to protect and guard it~ God needs it!

Ah, a move will wait. But when the time comes, I know where I’ll be. That’s a good thing.

We’re expecting nearly a foot of snow tomorrow in this area~ a bit different than your weather! I’ll be careful letting Finn out. So far, snow here has only been 1/2 a Finn high!

I hope you’re well. Over at Pam’s place I brought chocolate for you!

Much love and hugs from Finn and I! Many blessings dear friend. ❤️🤗🙏🏻♥️🥰🦓🦓🐾🐾🙌🏻🙌🏻

      1. Whoohoo! Oh yes, I saw that chocolate wish over at Pam’s beautiful lady. Can I vote for you? 🤣

And yes, I ever see the wave from both you guys. I know regardless of your current path a joy within will ever wave a heart’s love to one and all. Thank you 🤗🥰🐾🦓❤️

Ah, the move on back burner. Now that I can understand. Maybe wait till a little warmth arrives and everyone isn’t slipping and sliding in that white stuff. Now thinking about that it must be terrible doing a winter move of house. I think it would test me over here, and it usually only gets down to 12C at the most. And definitely no white stuff 😂 Haha, half a Finn high. Great measuring stick Karla 🤣

Big hugs coming back with lots of love kind lady. May it give you strength for arm waves, walks in the woods, and yes, lymph nodes a’healing too. I have no doubt God will know those heart lines through your body Karla, they sing a love as only yours can as they sift that royal blood my friend 🤗🥰🐾🦓🎶🕊️ ❤️🙏

  6. I appreciate the reminder that each president’s administration is temporary. It it not our president in whom final authority lies, but in our Almighty God. And it’s by his grace alone our country and its republic form of government have survived nearly 250 years. “Protect us by Thy might, Great God, our King” (last line of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee”)!

    1. Very wise words, Nancy. Amen!
It’s my blessing to share~ it’s been a prayer of mine to “let it go” and not worry of the things I can’t control~ the history of humanity, the current situations~ HIS grace alone! Thank you for sharing and encouraging me, my friend. I love that last line! 🎶

  7. Thank you, Karla for this post. We have been to Mount Rushmore, Mount Vernon, Monticello, and the White House. We visited Ford’s Theater and crossed the street to the house where Lincoln was carried after being shot and then died there the next morning. We have seen many more, but won’t take time to mention. All of these historical places are very sobering to visit. These men that have served as President are all just men! I find these scriptures in Proverbs very comforting…“The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will. Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the
    heart.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭21‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

Your posts always make me think. I perhaps have never given much thought to President’s or Presidents’ Day.

I am praying as you travel back to NCI and am thankful you have support from palliative care and a nurse checking in on you. God is good through it all my friend. I love you and you are always in my prayers ❤️🙏🏻

    1. Dear Pam,
Thank you, precious friend! I always enjoy your wise, comforting, and encouraging responses.
I think of all the places you’ve been–how wonderful. I love history; there are so many places I still want to see (Ford’s Theater and Mount Vernon on my list).
“These men that have served as President are all just men!” YES! Such a beautiful verse, too.

Thank you so much for your love, prayers, and support, dear Pam. I love visiting your place. I’ve been organizing information and sending it out to my “kids” and family. I’m so blessed to be a patient at the NCI. At times, it can seem overwhelming–the travel and accommodation plans, specific things to take place, and more so, praying that I FEEL well when it’s time to travel. God has ALWAYS given me strength. The wisdom I pray for also helps guide my decisions and plans. One hour at a time!

Pam, I didn’t understand palliative care. A special thank you to my support group and its leaders for the TREASURE trove of information. Educating myself about the disease, in addition to my walk in the Spirit, keeps me grounded. She was going to come today; however, the snow falling is keeping many at home. We’re expecting 8-12 inches (two Finley’s high!). The check-in’s and so much other support has already given my spirit a boost.

I love you and I’m so happy we’re all on this journey “home” together. Please give your sweet family, and Daddy, my love, too. ❣️🎶💗💞🩷🙏🏼🙏🏼🤗

  8. You wove hidden patriotism into each cinquain, Karla! My favorite was “Monument.” I’ve never seen Mount Rushmore in person, but even photos, videos, and movie-scenes give indication of the mammoth size of these sculptures. The artistry and engineering of such an endeavor boggles my mind! And then there’s the choice made by the artist, Gutzon Borglum, of which four presidents to include. We’ve been blessed as a nation, down through the decades, by the influence of Washington, Jefferson, T. Roosevelt, and Lincoln. I’m afraid many are not aware, because history isn’t taught as intentionally as it once was. Students are missing the benefit of appreciation for their country and the examples of aspiring patriots, imperfect as they were.

  9. Pingback: Interview With Gary Fultz of garyfultz.com – Jesusluvsall's Blog

    1. Matt, I enjoyed this interview with Gary! The shout-out and prayers touched my heart. I’m so happy to see how God is using you, with fellow friends, to ignite the fire of faith. Gary, your testimony is powerful. Does David know we have a challenge? Thank you, brother, for such a humbling experience. I’m excited to see how our platforms can morphe into continued communications about our Creator! 🙏🏻🥰♥️

  10. My mother might’ve quoted Philippians 4:7 about now: “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

For some reason this meme comes to my mind:

    Let’s eat Grandma!

    Let’s eat, Grandma!

    Punctuation saves lives.

    😘❤️❣️

    1. Amen, C.L.!! One of my favorite verses. My studies have been all about that peace.
C, the punctuation makes me giggle. I remember those memes.
Sending you love and hugs, sweet sister. Here’s to your peaceful dance and movement (and a donut, if you wish). 💕❤️♥️

  11. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the significance of President’s Day, K.L. It’s interesting how the interpretation of this holiday can vary depending on personal experiences and local traditions. Your reflections on leadership and its impact on our lives resonate deeply. It’s a reminder that while history shapes us, our individual journeys and faith help guide us through.

    Keep embracing that spirit!
