Miracle Musings

If a pain & cancer-free body and freedom from frugal existence were prerequisites for travel, I’d never leave home. Christ, common sense, and coffee coasted with me. There were over 100 miles left and both tanks, gas & body, were nearly empty. “Faith” was at my feet. This rock was a gift. Miracle!

“She wants me to go up there,” my son exclaimed. His wife’s lengthy stature and arms both waved from atop the hill. He darted up the dusty path! As if seasoned climbers, they both cautiously came down. “He needs water!”, my daughter-in-law uttered. My son grabbed bottles and the couple dashed up the trail again at record speed. The heat was dangerously high and dry. Although the Rio Grande appeared cool with its flowing water, the bodies were not accustomed to this heat. Signs across the National Park begged warned visitors to carry ample water supply.  Unfortunately, the only water the endangered hiking couple had was pouring out of their veins. Fortunately, the man’s health improved as my son and daughter-in-law helped with his hydration crisis. The four of them cautiously and gingerly descended. Miracle!

“We prayed for you,” I shared with the exasperated, sweat-drenched, kind older woman. At 5 years old, Asher seemed uncertain about praying for strangers. “We all need prayer,” exclaimed the thankfully rescued hikers. A happy ending for all. Miracles!

The multicolored desert sky surrounded by the Chisos Mountains turned pitch black at nightfall. The loss of electricity one night also made for perfect stargazing conditions. Oh, the joy of camping! We spoke of galaxies, shooting stars, and God’s power. Tears of tiredness, remarkable rock ravishing, and fossil fascination. Wonders of the world, wrinkles of the skin, and the exuberant joy of childhood. Long drives and winded conversations. Walks of discovery, no-holds-barred hugs, dances of delight, and impromptu stops to love more family. Tales of time that rushed like a roadrunner. Miracles!

Camping in the cactus-filled desert reminded me of the dry crumbs I sometimes use in conversation. These dehydrated discussions terminate the truth. Will you muse on the miracles? Or about the hardships of humanity, fears of the unknown, or ghosts of the past? Or the Spirit that can bring life-giving water?

One year ago, today, I felt spooked. Countless vials of blood, tests, and a countdown to a life-altering surgery. My rare cancer explained years of unknowns. Family and friends have loved me through it all. A faith that has sustained me through every fall. Miracles.

Fear? It will never own me. Miracle!

Do you know YOU are a miracle? And…YOU ARE LOVED!💚

Have faith 💚…from Texas to Oklahoma to Missouri…to every state and corner of the globe.

  1. thanks Karla, great post. I am about to begin my day. This post is a great kick start. Whenever I feel like faltering or wussing out from the journey I remember that Jesus is with me and I carry on with strength and vigor. No more wussing out !!!

    1. Hello, John! It’s so good to “see” you my friend! I’m so happy this post was a great kick start to your day! I love your strength and vigor that comes from standing with Jesus. I’ll join you!! Here we go!

  2. I enjoyed this post… your words and your photos. It’s amazing how many hikers find themselves in trouble due to a lack of water. They underestimate the importance. We see it all the time here in Arizona. Thankfully there are gracious folks out there like yourselves ready to share hydration.

    1. Ingrid, thank you for your thoughtful and kind words, my friend. I appreciate you so much! I can imagine the situations in your beautiful area. Later in our trip, we hiked an area in which a family of 3 needed water before proceeding to hike. I feel blessed that in my experiences, the kindness of strangers continues to give hope and proof that goodness exists! I hope you are well, my friend.

  3. What glorious photos! And what a. Even more glittering testimony of faith. Thank you for this wonderful gift, Karla. It sounds like an amazing trip. But I am curious; do roadrunners really go “MEEP!! MEEP!!” before they take off and run?

    1. Russell! I’m giggling…can you hear me? SO….when I saw the roadrunner I immediately said those words! As did a few around me. I was on the “look out” for Wile E. Coyote, too! Thank you for your support, dear friend! I’m so glad you enjoyed this! I hope you’re doing the best possible. Both of you!

  4. Hey Karla, happy celebrations for each and every miracle in your life…with your life…that is your life kind lady 🤣❤️🙏

Glad that you had a great time, your photo’s tell all those miracles. And that poor guy not taking water into such a hot country. Another life saved, miracles are truly on your path kind lady.

And even the unannounced blackout so you could truly see His skies. And I loved the picture looking down into that river, they are a ‘life’ flowing through all His world 🤗

I hope you are going well, those ‘little’ excursions can tire so easily. But I feel a heart strong, knowing your faith will take you to a beautiful destiny, regardless its path.

Big hugs, lots of love, and sending you and Finn some ‘chocolate’ energy from across the big water to raise you both up. Oh, and a big, big wave from a couple of straggler humpback whales playing in our bay a couple of days ago. Was that you and Finn again? 🤣 The migration is usually over by now but you know how it is, if its play time, its play time 😂

Take care Karla, be gentle within and enjoy the beauty He is sharing in your change of season kind lady. And thank you for sharing your trip 🤗🥰❤️🙏

    1. I’m going to have some of that chocolate now, dear Mark. But very little of it. I’m handing more of it out to the kids coming to the door! Trick or treat—I have my two feet and a heartbeat, Mark!
The little excursions catch up with me. But good for God—he’s always above, below, and many steps ahead of me. Any road that leads to seeing my “kids” and “grandkids” must be taken now and then. For when? Right?

Time is money, money is time…some might wait for one or the other—-and they both disappear very fast. I’ve learned to live on very little and I’ve had more. Ah, contentment. In all things, Mark! Like the whales (maybe that WAS Finn and I, tee hee) I migrate through seasons letting nature take its course. I’m trying to build up blubber too, my friend, to soften any blows and protect myself better! Lol

It’s so good to “see” you. I really miss being here when I’m gone. Yet, it’s the life “out there” that gives me so much more faith stories in real time!

We’re just passing through this road trip here aren’t we Mark? My heart will remain strong, I’m sure like my faith, even when my body decides it’s time to rest. I’ll be gentle as I enjoy the beauty. Truly, It’s great to be back in the Ozarks to enjoy a bit of fall season before hibernation season. But nothing beats seeing the faces of my most favorite humans on the planet!

Finn and I send our leftover Halloween candy wrapped in goodness, hugs, and love! Happy November, my friend! 💕🐾🤗🐳

      1. We really are just passing through Karla, but God being God He gives such a profound gift in even a little wander across this life and land. When I finally saw and understood…I just cried. I think it was such a profound moment to realize that it all did indeed have a great meaning. We just can’t fully see it…until we do.

And that moment…there just isn’t any words for it…but the understanding… just… leaves… you… in… tears. Big, big happy tears…because you know He loves you ❤️🙏

And it was so quiet here. I knew the energy of you two wandering and seeing that ‘life’ you spoke of out there. And it is needed kind lady, so we can appreciate all the more of those times on here. Plus I get to hear the great stories 🤣

Thank you for sharing that heart of gold my friend, the glow of those events, and the knowing He is ever there wherever you are 🤗❤️🙏

      2. Oh, I forgot…Happy Halloween Karla. Nothing like candy, chocolate, and bright happy faces knocking on your door 🤣 But do enjoy the gift of those growls, groans and ghastly grins…and the smiles they leave behind with your gifts 🤗🥰🤣❤️🙏

  5. Looks like your son and daughter-in-law helped someone just in time. Good thing they had water. I’ve never been to Big Bend, but I hear it’s a beautiful park. I hope you had a good time there.

It seems to me like there are scientific explanations for many things that happen. But ultimately, when you dig down real deep, the scientific explanations evaporate and we are left with a big mystery. I think that’s where the source of miracles lies.

    1. Tippy, thank you, my friend! I enjoyed your response ~and thank you for being here and supporting me!
It was a great time. I’m still “digesting” it all.

Isn’t it amazing just what our minds CAN’T comprehend? We can’t begin to scratch surfaces. But I’ve always tried! I’m curious and want to learn. And I know enough to know I know…nothing? lol 😂 I love seeing life through a lens of wonder! I hope you’re doing good!

    1. Hello sweet sister. I’m so happy to see you too! My heart is glad you’re feeling ok and able to be here. Isn’t it wonderful we have this connection here? I can imagine one day when we meet! Many blessings and love, TT.💕🙏🏻💚

  6. Another interesting post, Karla. It is good you came by and had water to share! Miracles happen in many ways. You are amazing getting out living above the pain and finding new adventures with your family.

    1. Thank you, Dwight! I’ve missed your place and poetry and hope all is well. I was so happy my daughter-in-law was in the right place at the right time! She was paying attention. And a family that needed water later happened upon us. These aren’t coincidences~yet, if we had our heads down, they might become catastrophic. It’s a great reminder to be aware of others! God always works that way for me.
Dwight, you’re so kind. I reflect on my days, activities, and routines. I think the reason I give God all the glory is because I find it to be unbelievable myself sometimes. Adrenaline? Motivation? The perspective of I may only live a short time changed my whole outlook. Yet, I’ve always tried to be a positive “live as each day is your last” person. It just changes you. I’ll be wise and listen. And go with God as I can. God bless you, dear friend. I appreciate you!

  8. Karla! I’m thrilled to read about your excursion and the travels with faith! That you and your grandchildren were able to pray for the hikers in danger is wonderful. Prayer can move mountains!! I’m hoping the memories of dark skies filled with the miracles of stars and the love of your family sustains you until you are able to travel again!! Big hugs and lots of love from me and Mochi to you and Finn! 🐾💓💓🐾💞

    1. Aw, Val, such precious words, my friend. The memories and miracles sustain me~and give me hope for even more! The tiny voices, hands, and huge minds of discovery~they’re growing so fast! Big hugs and love to you and Mochi, too! Finn helped give out candy last night. But was happy when we finally stopped, I’m sure. 🎃💚💚💕💕🐾🐾🫶🏻🫶🏻☕️

  9. A part of the country I have not yet experienced! Thank you for sharing the joy of your journey with us. I pray this excursion filled you with the unique God- filled energy the desert landscape provides. I know I feel an energy in your words that always sustains me. You work little miracles every day. Karla. Love to you.

    1. I love you, my friend! Thank you so much for your watersoaked words of kindness and encouragement. I’m praying for you sweet friend. May God continue working miracles in and through you, too.

  10. Your photos are amazing! I especially love the one taken from behind the travel trailer of the huge sky with mountains ahead! Wow! God bless you, Karla, in all your adventures! Sending prayers, hugs, and love to you and Finn! 🙏 🤗 💕 🐾

    1. Cindy, it’s so good to “see” you. Thank you for your prayers, friendship, hugs, and encouragement—always! Finn and I love you and Henry and pray for you as you do for us. 🤍🐾❤️🙏😃

  11. Sweet post. Life is filled with so many miracles if we keep our eyes, ears and heart open to notice them. I’m glad you’re continuing to explore this beautiful planet. Barry and Joyce Vissel wrote their entire newest book about the miracles they’ve experienced throughout their life.

    Blessings to you.

    love, katelon

    1. Katelon, you’re so thoughtful and kindhearted. Thank you, my friend. I’m going to check out Barry and Joyce’s book. “…if we keep our eyes, ears and heart open to notice them.” How beautiful! Many blessings and love, sweet friend ❤️

      1. Thank you. Barry and Joyce put out a you tube inspiration video every week on Sunday. Joyce tells a little story and focuses on a tool we can use and Barry sings one of his little songs he’s written. Enjoy the fall and your travels. ❤️

      2. You’re welcome ☺️! That’s wonderful! My next travel is to the National Cancer Institute for my follow up scans and appointments. Currently expecting miracles for my sweet Dad and a surgery tomorrow. In our ever changing circumstances in humanity, all of us, I grasp and cling to that which never changes~ God and his never ending love, grace, and miraculous ways! I pray you have a fall filled with miracles.❤️🥰🙏🏻

      1. You’re welcome most kind Karla and thank you so much for writing that. Means so much to me. 💕🙏🏻 Hope your Saturday is off to a lovely start. 🌼

      2. You’re welcome, sweet friend. It’s true! 💕🙏🏻 my precious Dad has been in the hospital since Friday. Unexpected stay, now a surgery tomorrow. He’s a miracle already and we’re praying for more! Many blessings dear friend. I pray your week is going good.♥️🙏🏻❤️

  12. I’m so glad you were able to go camping, Karla, and to enjoy a star-studded sky. Places with little light pollution offer breathtaking glimpses into the universe.

    Wishing you more miracles,

    Tanja

    1. Thank you, my friend. I won’t forget that camping trip and the miles of smiles and open sky. I love your words, “…breathtaking glimpses into the universe.” Wishing you miracles too, Tanja.

  13. Every adventure has it’s stories. I tend to think that even those who do not believe in miracles, still rely on them to get through life. The blessing with going through some very hard things in life is we see the miracles. Our eyes have been opened. Your’s for sure Karla.

    1. Gary, how profound my friend. I was watching a message called “Unshakable” with a similar theme to your wise words.

You and your family know well! I’m glad we live with eyes and hearts wide open. Sending prayers and love to the entire Fultz family. 🙏🏻❤️

    1. Thank you, dear friend! Miracles are sermons …that’s perfect!
I’m giggling about the roadrunners! I understand! I’d love to visit Yorkshire~even with no roadrunners! Beep beep! 🤗😂💚 sending love and prayers to you two always!

  15. A treat of a post! Big Bend is on my list of miracles to see, and here you are miraculously there. Sounds like some fabulous family time and memories made. I pray for God’s blessings in all of your days!

    1. Sweet C,…I thought of you traveling your area. I had a sneaky suspicion this would be on your list. In the changes of circumstances, miles on roads, and visits to hospital, I’m constantly reminded of how God never changes! He’s truly the best “GPS” I’ve ever had! The memories are precious~I look forward to many more. I love you sweet sister and send prayers and blessings to you always.🙏🏻💕💚🤗

  16. Blessings Karla. Your thoughtful words wrap around a faith that shares the miracle of our Savior. He fulfilled His Father’s ultimate promise to light our way to walk in peace with Him.

  17. Karla, I lost my comments. I somehow missed that your Dad was having surgery. I hope he is doing well. Are you taking care of yourself, dear one? Sitting in a hospital can be exhausting. I am so happy you had time with your family. Camping, star gazing, helping a couple in dire need, playing with grands all add up to blessings upon blessings.

We have 24/7 caregivers for my Daddy. He has declined over the past two weeks. He is so precious and his caregivers love him. I am praying for you my friend and for your Dad and Mom.

    I love you ❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

    1. Oh, Pam. I’m sorry to hear of your Dad’s decline. I am praying 🙏🏻. Bless all of you. I know how precious he is and all of you, too.

I’m taking good care. Today I won’t be there (I’ll substitute part of day) and he’s improving. Hopefully home by weekend. He’s a miracle! I’ll email you why this is a first step process for him.

It was such a beautiful time in Texas.🥰⭐️ and I have my other son and family in Oklahoma and not far, either.

Life, and time, move at a rapid pace. Through it all, I can pause and reflect that each hour, even with unexpected events, still proves miraculous! I have a perspective that won’t change. It’s been proven to me over and over.

I will share with my parents about your prayers. We are all thankful. It’s so wonderful to have family/friends that pray and lift one another. Thank you, precious Pam.

As we approach our favorite holiday, I’ll keep a posture of gratitude and thanksgiving. I love you dearly, Pam. 💚💚🙏🏻🙏🏻💚❤️♥️🎶
