I’ll just jot it down. My goals (well-planned, but I know WHO’S in charge ;-), grocery list, new words, things to remember, and other things. Why do I love the smell of paper? I’m obsessed with good pens (and Sharpies ;-). Post-it notes? Uh, yes, please. Buying a new notebook makes me smile (how many notebooks does one person need?). Oh yes, the trees! I love them and so I’ve made my mark digitally, too. But still, I’ll still just jot it down.

  1. The new notebook reminds me of the many filled notebooks I have in my desk. Some are from various meetings, classes and personal thoughts, along with people I’ve seen or know. Someday, I’m going to have to revisit them and see if there’s anything valuable in any one of them. Praying for tomorro.

  3. I just reverted to doing some daily writing with paper and pen/pencil! I have lots of blank journals and notebooks! I tend to tear out 4 pages of a fancy journal for every one that passes perfectionist self-regulations… my drafts are like a treasure map scrawled by a mad scientist: follow the squiggles and arrows, etc. My soul has definitely missed the connection though. I enjoy my pretty cursive, but it is not my muse’s go-to, lol.

    1. I thought you could relate, Laura! I can’t even count the number of notebooks and journals I’ve had~many gone too. I love the description of your “treasure maps”! My doodles and scribbles are interesting? 🤦🏼‍♀️ for many reasons gripping a pen and writing is therapy. My hand does tire down though! I’m in good journaling company ❤️🤗.

  5. My mother kept journals until her eyesight failed and she couldn’t see to write. We went through some of them and I enjoyed seeing life through her eyes….

  7. Your poem reminded me of a poem written by a high school student decades ago. I stumbled upon it in an obscure journal somewhere. It had been published, which made my smile.

    Never met the kid, but he will always be one of my favorite authors.

  10. I have filled some journals and then I stop for a few years and then decide once again to put pen to paper. You have a wonderful gift from our Father! Thank you for using and sharing His gift ♥️

  12. Wonderful read. Ah, yes. I too love the feeling of a fresh notepad. Oh, the possibilities, the lists.

    And the poem, so sweet! My husband has a cute story about high school, they were supposed to write about and read their favorite poem to the class. Most 16 year old jocks don’t have favorite poems. So he picks the shortest poem he could find. Fleas, Adam had ’em.

    Needless to say his English teacher wasn’t impressed. 😆

  13. I know of this love you speak for all things school-supplied. A package of new pencils freshly sharpened and collage lined paper. I must admit I use to have a stack of unused notebooks, but I have been diligent with the journal these past 10+ years and now the pile is nearly used up. I know none of it has been for naught because all that “jotting down” has formed me into the person I am today. And praise be, it is of one filled with gratitude (despite the occasional heartbreak) for a life truly blessed by Him. Hugs to you for the opportunity to give thanks for the simply pleasure of jotting down those thoughts (or two.)

  15. Oh yes, there’s nothing like a new journal or a fresh sheet of paper! I suppose it’s the bright expectation we bring to the writing, the hope of discovering words that sing–like yours here! (You’ve written a delightful poem.) I must say, though, I’m still looking for the right pen–one that’s no too expensive! Any recommendations?

    1. Hi, Nancy! Please forgive my late response! Thank you for your kind words! For years I’ve been a Uniball gel pen gal. I don’t go for expensive ones; but I’ve been picky about the cushion on them. This one, medium font, has been my go-to! Take care and thank you, again!

      1. Thank you for the recommendation, K. L. That’s the pen I currently use too–the #207! Agreed: don’t want to go the expensive route. I was once gifted a pen that glided along almost effortlessly. Unfortunately, it was unrefillable! I almost cried. : )
