Earnest Earth Day 2024

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” Psalm 24:1

Some of us are blooming, some wilting. Some of us are sowing, others are harvesting. Together, in the garden. I crave our Creator and love HIM. And you.

Have faith, my friends. 🙏🌍💛

“With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.” Ephesians 1:8-10

National Park Week!

“There is nothing so American as our national parks … the fundamental idea behind the parks … is that the country belongs to the people, that it is in process of making for the enrichment of the lives of all of us.”President Franklin D. Roosevelt; 32nd president of the United States who signed Executive Order 6166, which created the National Park Service we know today

“If you drive to, say, Shenandoah National Park, or the Great Smoky Mountains, you’ll get some appreciation for the scale and beauty of the outdoors. When you walk into it, then you see it in a completely different way. You discover it in a much slower, more majestic sort of way.”Bill Bryson; American-British travel author/journalist

“The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.” Psalm 95:5

“A national park is not a playground. It’s a sanctuary for nature and for humans who will accept nature on nature’s own terms.”Michael Frome; writer, educator, and conservationist

Walk away quietly in any direction and taste the freedom of the mountaineer. Camp out among the grasses and gentians of glacial meadows, in craggy garden nooks full of nature’s darlings. Climb the mountains and get their good tidings, Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. As age comes on, one source of enjoyment after another is closed, but nature’s sources never fail.”

John Muir; Scottish-American naturalist, environmental philosopher, conservationist, and author known as “Father of the National Parks”

“Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’”-Genesis 1:26

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Genesis 2:15

    1. Thank you, Tangie. I appreciate you so much, sister. How are you? I hope you’re healing and not hurting 🙏🏻

I’m learning to live again. Surrendering every hour. Listening. Learning. Loving. Healing. Some times hurting~but don’t we all? Sending love and prayers, sweet sister. 💕🙏🏻

  1. Listening to Joey Feek kinda makes my eyes leak. That was not an attempt at poetry. It was an expression of a heart touched.

    Thank you that.

    Tim.

    1. Tim, I sat and cried listening to her~I follow Rory. Have you heard One Angel? He said he grew up watching The Waltons and Little House (gets his style from Pa Ingalls). You can imaging how I can relate to that.
He celebrated his little girl, and said goodbye to his angel/her mom just days later. Faith. I wanna live like that, my friend.
But you know what? Even more, I want to die well, Tim. That sounds morbid. But I think dying well is a great act of faith, too.

My heart is touched. HE touched me and I’ll spend every breath telling about it.

I appreciate you my friend 🙏🏻🎶💚

    1. John, thank you! I need to pop over to your place and see what you’ve been up to, dear friend. I’m so happy to see you. And thankful for you!☺️

Thank you for your thoughtful writing! I do very much feel your hiking and love of the outdoor and your Savior

    1. Thank you, Judy! I’m so happy you feel that~that’s exactly what I had hoped! I pray today went well. I was thinking of you and Amy when I was putting this together.💕🙏🏻🥰 I love you!

  3. What a great bunch of pictures from your world. You really do have quite a framing eye. Love the greenery…ours is quite brown still. nature helps frame our mind as well as help us be more receptive toward our creator

    1. “Nature helps frame our mind as well as help us be more receptive toward our Creator.”
That’s beautiful, Gary. Thank you~for your words, kindness, and prayers.
A compliment on photography coming from you means so much!
Many blessings and continued prayers for my Minnesota family!

  4. I just saw the slide show — I thought it was only the one picture : such beautiful flowers, that river scene, that ye olde bridge; it’s such a warm, friendly post 🙂

    1. John, I’m so happy you enjoyed the pics. I took most of these last Wednesday.
I crossed that bridge, didn’t burn it, John~looked under it for a troll. He was a jolly one! Told me to keep skipping rocks, look at the two trees holding each other “up”, and that he knew even HE was made by God; even if he was considered monster like to some. I thanked him for his time and followed the yellow butterfly down the trail.
Another bridge, no troll, but a frog squeaked a hello and Squeaky the squirrel stayed in the shade! Do you see the bridge through the leaf?
I’m so happy this post was warm and friendly~thank you! ☺️

  5. I love John Muir: “Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.” A perfect pairing for your photos of sunlit trees. I feel the peace!

And your 6 Ways to Help the Earth—perfect! I’m saving a screenshot to remind myself again and again.

“In the Garden” will always remind me of my mother, so your post was a beautiful ending to my Earth Day.

Good Night, beautiful sister-friend! I love you! 🙏🏻

    1. I love you, Crystal. I was thinking of your walk at the Houston Botanical Gardens and the water fountains, the peace…it pairs perfectly with my post.
Thank YOU for your beautiful words and support.
Sister, it touches my heart that the song reminds you of your mother. I will remember that as I sing it, too. My mom and dad and whole family love hymns–they evoke many emotions of the love of our God!
Have a blessed and beautiful day, beautiful sister/friend!💛❣️🙏❤️

      1. We were definitely sister-twinning as we reflected and wrote about our beautiful planet yesterday. Next big event—I’m off to see my daughter. You know that does my Mama heart good! Happy Tuesday and many blessings to you, Karla! 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

      2. I’m so thrilled to hear this! I let out a Mama squeal on that!

Enjoy every minute~as always, I’m sending you love and blessings my friend. Thank you for giving me that too!💕🙏🏻❤️

  6. It is a Garden of Eden Karla, the joy all around. I’ll never forget going through some truly fearful moments and coming out the other side…I could ‘see’, and I mean really see what had ever been there…but I was blind. Fear covers our eyes, but once known and understand, we let it go and our eyes are opened. Beautiful post kind lady, may we truly all begin to see such beauty and appreciate what has ever been there. Thank you 🤗🥰😀❤️🙏

      1. He gave us such a beautifully profound journey Karla, in our understanding of us we do begin to ‘see’ us , others and all around. It is a heaven in itself to which we slowly understand as we go through it all. As above, so below 🤗🥰😀❤️🙏

      2. Yes, Mark! When you understand it, it’s heaven on Earth. Jesus said, “My peace I leave you.” I choose it. It doesn’t mean there won’t be storms or hard times, but it’s the only peace I truly know! With that, I can live fully with the Spirit and SEE and experience the blessings all around me. You know!🙏🏻♥️💕

  7. Beautiful share, beautiful pictures, but this my friend…

Some of us are blooming, some wilting. Some of us are sowing, others are harvesting. Together, in the garden. I crave our Creator and love HIM. And you. I absolutely love love this! Thank you for this share! God bless you dear friend! 🌸🙏🏻☀️

    1. Thank you, dear Cindy! I was standing very far from him when I zoomed in–the expression had me mesmerized. He was wondering what the 3 workers in the water were doing; I was curious, too. God’s creation is filled with miracles! God bless you and Henry, too. I appreciate you so much! 💕❣️🙏💛🐾

Beautiful photos of nature in all its grandeur. Always nice to see Mother Nature’s handiwork in other parts of the country. Lovely tribute to Earth Day.

I really like your SIX WAYS TO HELP THE EARTH list. Very practical. Very doable.

Hope you and Sweet Miss Finley are doing well and perhaps enjoying some warmer temperatures than we are. I’m hoping the promise of Springs new beginnings fills you with hope for your own new beginnings…..a promise of at least much improved long lasting health. Add to that your strong faith and I believe you are more than halfway there!

Love and prayers to you, and hugs and belly rubs for the bestest caregiver ever!

    1. Ginger, I’m so happy to see you today! How are you doing, dear friend?
I need to go to Pam’s place pronto! Lack of sleep is keeping me in slo-mo. lol. But God is busy keeping me running. When the world seems to be “falling apart”, it’s a comfort to know he is in control!

Thank you for your kindness and comments, always. I’m so happy you enjoyed nature in my “slice” of the world!
And the practical and doable ways to help our Earth and one another! I’m a work-in-progress, always!

“I’m hoping the promise of Spring’s new beginnings fills you with hope for your own new beginnings—” Ginger, this is beautiful. This cancer is so inconsistent. But isn’t that life for all of us? One day you can climb mountains, the next day–I’m rolling down them and giggling. The following day, I’m tripping and laying flat. But wait, give me two days rest and I’ll pack my backpack again.

God never promised a life free of disease and illness. But he does promise us REST and a peace that passes ALL understanding if we choose! I’ll take it!

Finn and I love you, Ginger. She gives her thanks too (she closed her eyes again after saying it).

You give us such encouragement!! I hope you feel ours to you! ❤️❣️🙏💕🤗🐾🎶

    1. I JUST said your name, Pam! And here you are, dear friend.
Yes, I understand. I’ll never understand why some are hellbent on destroying it. I’ll seek the heavenly places and do my best to take care of it. I know you do, too! I’m so thankful for you!

  9. Karla, I am feasting on your beautiful shots of God’s creations. When I consider how every flower is different, I am in awe of God’s creativity. We are kindred spirits when it comes to so many things and our love of nature and God’s creation is certainly one of those we have in common!

Thank you for the beauty you share, my friend! I love you and always praying for you ❤️🙏🏻🎶🥰💜🌻🙏🏻

    1. Pam, I love how we meet here, and in nature and prayers.

We are kindred spirits! If only I could demonstrate tablescapes as you do! I try to bring a touch of beauty inside as you compliment the outdoors and the cottage!

I’m sorry I’m unable to comment on yours at times~there might be some waiting for approval? I’m not for sure. I wish I could get rid of whatever “gremlin” is getting in the way there.

I hope you know how much I love you and how you both inspire me so much! I’m praying for you and your family; your prayers are so appreciated 🎶❤️💕🥰🙏🏻 I planted a few flowers today, Pam. My body and brain are tired, but my hands in dirt for a bit made me happy.🥰🙏🏻💕 now I can rest in HIS peace. I’ll have another treatment on Thursday. I feel blessed. A sweet leader in my organization lost her Mom to this cancer~I know how blessed I am and will not take a day for granted~and will pray and encourage all those suffering.🙏🏻💕

  10. Wow, what a banquet of beautiful photos! Thank you for putting these all together. I need to go back and look them over because there are too many to take in at once.

  11. Karla these photos are beautiful and really do show the wonder of creation!! I have a lifetime pass to the National Parks and we use it all the time when traveling in the US. It is Sparky’s dream to visit every National Park… We’ve completed Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, Kentucky, Montana, Oregon, North Carolina, and Tennessee! Only a few more states to go (and by a few I mean lots)!

    1. Val, how wonderful! Thank you so much for your support, prayers, and friendship!

I share the same dream as Sparky. I have my pass and like to use it for 1/2 price camping at Corps campgrounds, too! I’ve visited many parks and still have lots to go! I’m thankful to God to be able to have seen what I have. And I’ll keep dreaming.❤️💕🙏🏻

  12. Gorgeous photos all, and a very vivid reminder of why Earth Day exists in the first place. The quotations promote how very lucky we are to have our planet, and to live within each moment we share with it. This post is a wonderful tribute to Mother Nature and Mother Earth.🌎

  13. Such a lovely celebration of our beautiful earth, in scripture, quotes, and photos, Karla! Praise God for the works of his hands, for our five senses with which to enjoy them, and the outlet of praise and gratitude to celebrate them.

    1. Nancy, thank you for reading and for your precious and encouraging words! Amen! I love your praise and join you in saying it! I told someone yesterday that I crave nature because I crave God~ I watched a movie in which the actor playing C.S. Lewis shared that as a young boy he felt the “yearning” for his Creator in the woods. Yesterday 4 deer stood near me in this same area~Nancy, it was so serene and special. We locked gazes as I heard the birds, saw the squirrels, and the light whisper of the Spirit swirled around. A young girl running approached. I motioned with my hands, showed her, she took a quick pic and off she ran. Me? I stood mesmerized still, gawking, and glorifying. That’s pretty much me at any time right now. I’m so thankful to be here and for friends such as you! 🙏🏻❤️

      1. What a glorious experience to be near enough to four deer to lock eyes! Such close encounters with God’s wild creatures do thrill our spirits. They’re a taste of heaven, aren’t they? I’m thankful for you too, Karla–for the way you demonstrate faith and cheerfulness in spite of fighting cancer. You are an inspiration to us all!!

      2. Thank you, Nancy. ♥️
With tears, I say it wholeheartedly!

I know there are SO many fighting battles. I just returned from the cancer center~blood draw, visit oncologist, and infusion center. It’s a “ripe” field to sow hope and love!

        Many blessings!🙏🏻💚

  14. Your comment above gives proof of the faith and good cheer I mentioned! May God augment your efforts to sow hope and love in the lives of other patients, Karla, and may YOU be blessed as a result, in marvelous ways!
