Stifling Start

Summer is off to a stifling start? “What a life!” the almost-five-year-old chimed, her voice full of wonder as she leaned against her dad in a kayak drifting across the cool waters of an Alaskan lake. Nearby, her seven-year-old birthday brother relaxed in a child-sized kayak, stretched out and happily being pulled along by their dad. Meanwhile, near Kansas City, a six-year-old was having a blast in the community pool. My three adorable little grands are starting summer spectacularly. They all make me giggle—three birthdays in June, July, and August—my sensational stairsteps. No stifling starts!

Meanwhile in Missouri…

I started to feel stifled.

Not just because of humidity. Medical issues, appointments, digestion?
Because my back and bones ache?
The heat and I don’t get along. Cancer knows exactly where I stand with it.

Humidity, we need to talk.

When do you feel stifled? There are seasons when I feel trapped. Sickness strikes. Some days, I feel isolated because my body aches too much to move. I feel stifled because I can’t give back what I feel others give to me. Suffocated by self-pity? Selfishness? Sadness? Solitude? I’m in time-out because of treatments. Some days, I’m just miserable—and I don’t have it in me to make it known. Because…
I’ll never know real oppression.
A young mother lost her battle to brain cancer, leaving behind two young sons and a grieving family.
And I…complain?

Stifled?
No. I’m merely sidelined for now.
In silence, I savor.
In song, I praise.
In rest, I recuperate and remember—

ALL HE HAS BROUGHT ME THROUGH.

You might be surfing, swimming, or lying on a beach,
Or working two jobs with basic needs out of reach.
You may be lying in a hospital, facing the unknown,
Or watching a loved one reach a milestone.
Maybe you’re shopping, hoping to impress,
Or feeling stifled, suffocated, even depressed.
Hearing someone say, “You should just smile,”
May help for a moment—but only a while.
It takes much more than words like that;
True change must reach the soul deep.
Find the true Source of life
For your heart to hold and keep.
No matter the season—
the hot, rainy, or cold—
Your heart won’t stay stifled;
He’ll be your stronghold.
With trust and faith,
giving Him your all,
He’ll free your breath
as you answer His call!

Have hope, sweet friends. Keep the faith. You are loved.🧡

Friends, you may have noticed my website was “Under Construction”. In lieu of being “stifled”, I learned new editing features. SImpler structures. Yet, also many learning curves! I’m certain the 30 revisions will become 31. Progress, not perfection! Thank you for your patience as I continue learning and growing; despite physical issues that cause my MIA moments. You’re all such treasures to me! Stay blessed–NOT stifled! 🙏🏻❣️

Kids really do enjoy all the fun of summer. I am glad you are enjoying your grandchildren, Karla. Seems like Alaska would be the place to be with all these 100 degree days! Take care, my friend.

Kids and summertime~ the best! I’m so happy for technology to watch them grow. And soon, God-willing, I’ll get up there and play with them. and lay. And rest. Just to be around them.
I hope you’re taking care too, Dwight. 🙏

I love the poem, and am impressed with the shrinking-line style. Also, I like poems that rhyme, better than those that don’t. I think you’re a good rhymster.

I can only guess how frustrated you must feel when people do nice things for you, and you’re too sick or tired to reciprocate.

Yes, it’s hot. A kayak ride on an Alaskan lake would feel very refreshing right now.

Thank you, Tippy! It’s strange~ it just seemed to work. I didn’t have a poem in mind, just the words and within a few minutes, it was written. It’s very elementary style ~ I’m sure from the years I was around kids. I love sing songy!

Yes, I would rather just not ask for help as it feels like a burden. Yet, I also know when I MUST ask for help. All of this coming on the end of the Independence theme.

It’s so fun seeing them all together after his time away and enjoying their camper and time in the great outdoors!

Nothing like it! I appreciate you dear friend.

I rarely post these days but my last attempt to post was so frustrating. I was looking for the simple to use Classic and found it but it no longer offered italics, bold, an easy click to post an image etc. It offered me small, medium, large font. I wish WP wouldn’t change stuff all the time. I don’t want to have to be a tech whiz to use it.

Regarding your feeling that you have no right to complain because a young mother died and left two sons…..I’ve never bought into that belief. Your suffering is important just as much as someone else’s. It is your body talking to you, your soul communicating, wanting to be heard. I believe that when we give voice to these feelings it is honoring ourselves rather than dismissing ourselves.

I’m glad you are able to find joy in your grandkids’ experiences. I’m not fond of heat either and so glad I don’t live where there is high humidity.

Way to go, Karla! I like your poetry too, and your command of alliteration is impressive! Keep on keeping the faith. You are an inspiration for all of us not to get stifled. Blessings!

Great post! Captured the moments of your journey well. I so appreciate your focus on Christ and the blessings you swim in along with the trials. It is not simply a trite reply to say that some of our greatest blessings arrive in the luggage of our greatest difficulties. But you already know this!

Talk soon? God bless. The worn-out Rascal sends his best!

Karla my Dear Sister you are truly a Blessing and so Incredible… I love how your Faith and Strength encourages us that being sidelined is not the same as being defeated. Through pain, uncertainty, and waiting, God remains our strength and our stronghold. How you remain so Faithful and Trusting is such a wonderful example of how we should walk with the Lord and His promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us….
Praying that you continue to feel His Comfort, Peace, and Grace each day. 🙏
    You Are Loved 💛

Hey Karla, beautifully written kind lady. And I think bigs hugs coming at you. Your tired, and the heat does not help. Trying to focus on something intricate like coding and feeling as you do…uh, tasks become very trying some days. But in that little shady place inside, He is helping my friend. That ocassional urge to sing or humming so that its vibration relaxes you. Or sleep with Finn next to you 🤣🐕🎶❤️

It has been raining on and off for a week over here so the breeze along with it has been a bit cold. But I can send some over by courier to give a little comfort 🥶 By the time it gets there it should be nice and cool 😂🐬

Plus in that cool box I’ll send you some help, healing, comfort and care. As well as many hugs, lots of love and many chocolates too. (They take my mind off lots 🤣🦓🕊️).

Hang in there Karla, many prayers coming over to you, divine assistance, and lots of healing love ❤️ May there be a spot by some water, a cool breeze, and just a loving break from it all. A request has been entered in prayer kind lady…better sit down, it was a bit strong 🤗🥰🤣🫶🏻🌟🐾🐶🦓🎶🐬🐳🌹❤️🙏

We just have to remember that He is with us and knows. He loves and understands and is the only one who does. We can learn to rest in that alone. That is what we need. Not an easy thing. I am praying that you find it. Kisses to you and Finn! 😘

Love the poem! As I started reading it, I immediately thought of an old song by a guy named Larry Norman. You might have heard of him. If not, look up the song, “Righteous Rocker,” from his album “Only Visiting This Planet.” 1972. Norman was known as the “grandfather” of Christian rock music. I realize your poem didn’t go in quite the same direction as his song . . . it was just the way it started. ❤️

In regards to being “stifled,” man I felt that in the past couple of weeks. But I also know that there are many people who are worse off than I. Even with C’s issues and S’s issues (I don’t think much of my own, really), I know that there are others worse off. I mean, none of us have cancer, right? At least as far as we know, anyway. We got stuff, but we’re getting by. And Jesus is good! Jesus is so good! As you read my blog entry later (I’m still writing it), you will know exactly what I’m talking about. I’m not stifled, this morning.
